Whenever my family goes on vacation, more often than not my dad and I will sneak away to play a round of golf.  This was the case when my family traveled to Hawaii.  My dad and I played Kapalua on October 19 and let me say that it was definitely a learning experience!

I’m from the Midwest, so I am used to Midwest greens.  The greens in Hawaii are much different from the greens in the Midwest because they have Bermuda grass.  That type of grass dictates the speed of the green, and which way the ball will move.  I did not realize this when we first started playing which made for some embarrassing three-putts and even one four-putt.  As we reached the back nine, my putting was definitely improving and I felt more comfortable on the greens.

Other than putting being a little bit of a struggle, I played decently well.  Getting off the tee was the strongest part of my game, and reaching the green was good, but an adjustment with getting used to the sandy fairways.

In conclusion, the course was by far the toughest and most beautiful course I have ever played.  I am also glad I was able to learn something from the round as I’m sure I will never forget how to read Bermuda grass!
